The striking 7-meter-high ‘Mirror Pavilion’ is making its global debut at the Festival and is the largest outdoor visual arts project in Ireland this year. Created using highly reflective mirrors and high-resolution LED technology, it will showcase two unique artworks by the celebrated artist in two locations throughout September and October 2020.

Ken O’Byrne, commercial director, Flogas Energy said, “In these challenging times, we’re delighted to partner with such an iconic event that is the Festival, that not only supports the local community but showcases the breadth and depth of Irish artistic talent to a global audience. The festival’s commitment to sustainability reflects our own and we will be working with the chief executive officer John Crumlish and his team in transforming it into a carbon neutral event over the coming years.”

The Flogas partnership with the Festival is one of only a small number of corporate sponsorships announced in Ireland this year, as research by sponsorship consultants ONSIDE showed a 46% drop in the number of new reported sponsorship deals in Ireland in the first half of 2020 versus the same period last year

The announcement marks the beginning of the three-year partnership between the Drogheda based energy provider and the Festival. This year’s programme welcomes audiences to safely experience art live in person while facilitating those who may prefer to engage from home.

Flogas is a one of the fastest growing energy providers, providing natural gas, electricity and LPG, with close on 150,000 residential and commercial customers on the island of Ireland. In line with its commitment to sustainability, it recently launched a carbon offsetting solution for commercial customers earlier this year, allowing them to offset 100% of their carbon emissions by investing in gold standard climate protection projects. Carbon offsetting is recognised worldwide as a way of managing carbon emissions.  Carbon emission reductions are certified through globally recognised standards and audited by independent third parties.

Welcoming the partnership, Galway International Arts Festival CEO John Crumlish said: “We are delighted that Flogas is now our energy partner. The festival is committed to increasing its own sustainability and reducing its impact on the environment and, with this partnership, we have taken a giant leap forward in this regard.

“We are very grateful to Flogas for not only agreeing to help us with this challenge but also for their support at a very difficult time for everyone. They are a company focused on the future and we very much look forward to working with them.”
