Frequently asked questions about reading your Liquid Gas (LPG) meter
How To Read Your Gas Meter (semi-detached home) Video
Estimated meter readings are based on previous consumption, any necessary adjustment will be made when an actual reading is obtained which would usually be on your next bill. However if you are unhappy with an estimated bill you can take the reading yourself.
Taking your own Reading

On the front of your meter, you will see a panel with a number sequence on black and red. Note down the numbers that are on black.
You can now either:
- Submit your meter reading online HERE
- Phone it in to our customer support team on 028 9073 2611. Please be sure to confirm your address and meter number.
Your meter will be read five times annually – three times over the winter months (September – March) and twice during the summer months (April – August). If you have just moved into a property and wish to know the invoice periods for your development, or have not received an invoice from us for a period of four months or longer, please contact our customer service team on 028 9073 2611.
Frequently asked questions about Liquid Gas (LPG) billing
In a metered development, each property will have been fitted with a meter (normally in a box). The meter will record the amount of gas going into your home, typically in cubic metres. Within metered developments gas is piped to each home from a central storage point (this can be above ground or, as is more often the case, below ground). As a metered customer, you can enjoy all the advantages of gas with the peace of mind from knowing you will never run out, regular, planned deliveries are made by Flogas to metered developments.
We would ask that you familiarise yourself with the positioning of the meter for your property in the event that you have to turn the gas off in an emergency or wish to read your meter. Should you require a key to open your meter box please do not hesitate to contact us.

Frequently asked general questions about Liquid Gas
Liquid gas also known as Liquid Petroleum Gas, is obtained during the processing of crude oil or direct from the North Sea. It is a clean-burning, controllable, sustainable and efficient fuel, free from both lead a sulphur. It is a versatile and flexible source of energy, free from both lead and sulphur.
LPG is portable, can be transported, stored and used virtually anywhere as an energy source, and there are sufficient reserves to last for many decades. Liquid gas also shows lower greenhouse gas emissions than petrol, diesel, and electricity, on an energy-equivalent basis.
It is supplied in bulk tank and butane or propane cylinder (or bottled gas) formats and is a reliable energy source both at home and in industry.
At home, Liquid gas is a reliable and safe energy source used for central heating, mobile heating, water heating, cooking, drying, and outdoor uses such as barbecues and patio heaters.
Liquid gas provides a portable and reliable energy to power many different types of businesses, from instant water heating for dairy farms, to grain drying for large cereal processing plants; from top restaurants and hotels to schools and public bodies.
On most rural sites, connection to the mains is often not an option. The alternative for many people is an Liquid gas bulk tank where Liquid gas is stored neatly adjacent to your home in a special tank - your very own personal supply. An LPG bulk tank is just like a regular oil tank, but cleaner, easier to fill and much more secure than oil. Flogas has helped many families install an economical, safe gas central heating system, wherever they are in Ireland. Find out more from some of our happy customers.

Frequently asked safety questions about Liquid Gas (LPG)
In an emergency call Flogas 028 9073 2611
Liquid gas, in cylinders or tanks, has a distinctive smell added to enable you to clearly detect a leak. Never ignore a leak. Promptly take the following action:
- Firstly, if in any doubt, call Flogas on 028 9073 2611
- Turn off the gas at the tank(s) or cylinder(s).
- In the case of indoor cylinders or cylinders in a small enclosed yard, disconnect the cylinder and remove to an open (outdoor) space.
- For indoor leaks, to disperse the gas, open all windows and doors to the outside. Avoid sources of ignition - no smoking, do not turn electrical switches on or off.
- For large outdoor leaks (i.e. where there is a smell of gas more than a few feet from the source), keep people, vehicles and ignition sources away. If necessary, cordon off the area and/or have someone stay there to control access.
- In the case of fire, immediately ring the fire brigade.
It is colourless, odourless and has no taste. It is a killer.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is caused by fumes from faulty home heating appliances.
Frequently asked questions about cylinders and bottled gas
In use the two are very similar. Propane can be used all year round due to it's very low boiling temperature whereas Butane tends to be more suitable for summer use as low winter temperatures may mean the liquid will not boil to produce vapour to burn.
Most appliances can be used with either Butane or Propane but the cylinders use different regulators so please check what size is needed first. Propane operates at a higher pressure than Butane so it is not possible to use a butane regulator on a propane cylinder and vice versa. Propane can be used all year round due to it’s lower boiling point, Butane may not give off vapour in low seasonal temperatures, typically below two degrees Celsius.
You should always inspect your regulator for defects and dirt ingress before connecting to any cylinder or at least annually. It is recommended that you replace your regulator every five years or sooner if the manufacturer guide recommends this. It is important that you check before each connection is made though for defects.
When your Gaslight bottle is empty, return it to your selected stockist to exchange it for a full bottle. This time, you'll pay only for the gas.
